This Roadway Design and Modeling course builds a solid foundation in MicroStation for roadway design work. Over two days, participants learn core MicroStation Connect tools, from creating seed files and border sheets to setting up alignments, geo-referencing survey data, and working with aerials. The course also covers level manager setup, labeling and dimensioning tools, and both single and batch printing, then moves into cell libraries, 2D animation, and automated quantities reporting, giving attendees a practical, ground-up command of the MicroStation environment.

Day 1 Curriculum

MicroStation Tools

  • MicroStation Connect Tools Overview

Border Sheets

  • Creating files (Seed Files 2D – 3D)
  • Creating border sheets

Alignments – (Stationing Optional) *

  • Creating alignments for border sheets
  • Creating station and tick marks with station numbers (Optional)

Geo-Referencing

  • Load correct survey data file for US coordinate locating data

Aerials

  • Use Bing aerials inside of MicroStation
  • Download State Aerials – upload raster’s (SID, TIFF files) (Geo Ref Settings)

Level Manager

  • Create Levels for use on projects.
  • Export seed file with levels and setups

Text - Labeling

  • Using pre-created label tools.
  • Dimensions Tool

Batch Printing

  • Creating single prints
  • Creating batch print jobs
  • Editing batch print jobs

Day 2 Curriculum

Cells

  • Creating cell libraires and cells

2D Animation

  • 2D Animation tools
  • Creating animations
  • Managing animation files

Automated Quantities

  • Creating item types for quantities.
  • Creating quantities report excel files.
  • Creating quantities final PDF report
