This Survey Design and OpenRoads Designer course gives civil professionals hands-on training in building accurate 3D terrain models and production-ready plan sets. Over two days, participants work through importing and merging survey data, building existing and proposed surfaces, and creating horizontal and vertical alignments directly in the 3D model. The course carries through to plans production, covering plan, profile, and cross-section sheets, earthwork reporting, automated labeling, and sheet indexing, so attendees leave with a complete workflow from raw survey data to finished construction documents.

Day 1 Curriculum

Existing 3D Terrain Model

  • Importing and exporting tins
  • Importing Field Books (Survey Data)
  • Create surfaces (contours, break lines, elevation points)
  • Merge survey points with break lines, contours, etc.
  • Add updated aerials to background (Automated Aerials)

Horizontal Alignments

  • Creating horizontal alignments 3D Model (Geometry Builder)

  • Stationing Centerlines
  • Import / Export Alignments
  • Station Equations

Vertical Alignment

  • Vertical alignments 3D Model (Profiles)
