Public Agency Work in Civil 3D I

This course is tailored for professionals in public works organizations who need to work efficiently with Autodesk Civil 3D on site and roadway projects. You’ll learn how to leverage GIS data, create and modify alignments and profiles, and develop parametric corridor designs. From building in-house projects to reviewing submissions from consultants, this class gives you the tools and confidence to manage public agency civil design work effectively.

This four (4) hour course is delivered in two (2), two-hour long sessions that students can attend online, right from their own desk. A live instructor will explain the detailed functions, and address questions as the class progresses.

Note: Instructor will present using Autodesk Civil 3D 2026. Students who wish to follow along with instructor are encouraged to use the same version.

Prerequisite: Students should have a working knowledge of AutoCAD.

Recording: Registrants for a course will receive access to a recording of each session for 7 consecutive days. Access will start the next business day after the session ends.

Session 1: Alignments and Profiles

  • Using GIS surfaces as a basis for planning a design
  • Creating intelligent alignments for roadway or utility design
  • Modifying the geometry and properties of alignments
  • Setting up profiles in profile views for vertical design
  • Designing and modifying vertical alignment geometry

Session 2: Corridors

  • Creating parametric cross-sectional designs linked to a roadway model
  • Generating 3D representations of roadway models
  • Integrating AASHTO standards that assist with achieving good design
  • Accomplishing roadway rehab using specialized tools
