You may have noticed that Civil 3D 2025 was missing the installation for Storm and Sanitary Sewer Analysis (SSA). Furthermore, the Analyze tab of the ribbon no longer has the option to “Edit in Storm and Sanitary Analysis”. If you are an avid user of SSA, there is no need to worry. You can keep using previous versions of SSA with 2025 and future versions with a slightly adjusted workflow.
In Civil 3D 2024 and earlier versions, clicking on that button resulted in the following:
- SSA opens.
- SSA prompts to create a new project or open an existing project. The following dialog appears:
After the dialog is dismissed, when the Plan View tab is activated, one can see that the drawing file has been loaded as a backdrop, and SSA nodes and links appear over the pipe network.
In Civil 3D 2025 and up, the “EditInSSA” command no longer exists, so the above steps should be done manually:
- Using the Windows Start button, navigate to All Apps.
- Scroll down and expand the Autodesk folder, then click to launch Storm and Sanitary Analysis.
- Open Project Options and set your units to match your drawing and any other settings needed while there and click OK to continue.
- To import the pipe network into SSA, go back to Civil 3D. Using the Output tab of the ribbon, click Export to Storm Sewers on the Export panel.
- In the Export to Storm Sewers dialog, select the pipe network to be analyzed, click OK, then browse to a location to save the STM file. Click Save to continue.
- Go back to SSA. On the File pulldown, click Import>Hydraflow Storm Sewers file…, browse to the location of the STM file, select, and click Open. The following dialog will display:
- Dismiss the dialog.
- In SSA, go to the File pulldown and click Import>Layer Manager (DWG/DXF/TIF/more)…
- In the Layer Manager dialog, click the ellipsis next to Image/CAD file and browse to the drawing containing the pipe network, then click Open. SSA loads the drawing up in the background.
- Save this file.
After importing you may proceed as usual in SSA.
Upgrading to the latest version of Civil 3D doesn’t mean you have to give up using SSA. Storm and Sanitary Sewer Analysis 2024 can be downloaded from your Autodesk subscription account from the Civil 3D 2024 Extensions list as a stand-alone installation.
