Practical Revit Structural Design

The Practical Revit Structural Design training series is designed for structural engineers and architects who want to move beyond basic modeling and develop fully coordinated, construction-ready structural BIM models in Revit. Across Levels I and II, you’ll learn how to properly coordinate with architectural and survey data, manage linked models, and build accurate structural systems using walls, steel, and precast components. The series then advances into steel construction tools, fabrication elements, parametric modifications, and powerful scheduling and reporting workflows. By the end of this series, you’ll be able to clearly communicate structural design intent, improve coordination across disciplines, and produce reliable BIM deliverables that support real-world construction and fabrication.

This live online series offers 2 four-hour courses. You can take both courses or just the one that meets your needs. Each separate course is delivered in 2 two-hour sessions. A live instructor explains the detailed functions and addresses questions as the class progresses.

Note: Instructor will present using Autodesk Revit 2026. Students who wish to follow along with instructor are encouraged to use the same version.

Prerequisite: Students should have a solid understanding of Revit or have taken the Structural Design in Revit course series.

Recording: Registrants for a course will receive access to a recording of each session for 7 consecutive days. Access will start the next business day after the session ends.

4 hour course | 4 CPC/CEU credits

This course takes you beyond basic grid layouts and component placement, guiding you to build a true Structural BIM model in Revit. You’ll learn how to coordinate models, tie to surveyed points, link files, and work with structural walls and precast components, ensuring your BIM models are accurate, coordinated, and construction-ready.

Session 1: Coordinating Models

  • Setting the Project and Survey Base Points
  • Receiving and Linking Revit Models
  • Copy/Monitor Objects (Levels, Grids, Floors)
  • Creating Views from Linked Models
  • Coordinating Levels (Structural vs. Architectural)

Session 2: Building the Structure

  • Translating Architectural Walls to Structural
  • Modifying Wall Profiles
  • Modifying Beam Cuts
  • Structural Precast for Revit
