Public Agency Work in Civil 3D

The Public Agency Work in Civil 3D course series is designed specifically for professionals working in public works, municipal, and infrastructure organizations who need to efficiently design, review, and manage civil projects using Autodesk Civil 3D. The series begins with roadway-focused workflows, including GIS-based planning, alignments, profiles, and parametric corridor design, then advances into utility and infrastructure modeling with gravity and pressure pipe networks. Whether you’re developing in-house designs or reviewing consultant submissions, these courses provide practical, standards-based Civil 3D skills that support confident decision-making and effective public agency project delivery.

This live online series offers 2 four-hour courses. You can take both courses or just the one that meets your needs. Each separate course is delivered in 2 two-hour sessions. A live instructor explains the detailed functions and addresses questions as the class progresses.

Note: Instructor will present using Autodesk Civil 3D 2026. Students who wish to follow along with instructor are encouraged to use the same version.

Prerequisite: Students should have a working knowledge of AutoCAD.

Recording: Registrants for a course will receive access to a recording of each session for 7 consecutive days. Access will start the next business day after the session ends.

4 hour course | 4 CPC/CEU credits

This course is tailored for professionals in public works organizations who need to work efficiently with Autodesk Civil 3D on site and roadway projects. You’ll learn how to leverage GIS data, create and modify alignments and profiles, and develop parametric corridor designs. From building in-house projects to reviewing submissions from consultants, this class gives you the tools and confidence to manage public agency civil design work effectively.

Session 1: Alignments and Profiles

  • Using GIS surfaces as a basis for planning a design
  • Creating intelligent alignments for roadway or utility design
  • Modifying the geometry and properties of alignments
  • Setting up profiles in profile views for vertical design
  • Designing and modifying vertical alignment geometry

Session 2: Corridors

  • Creating parametric cross-sectional designs linked to a roadway model
  • Generating 3D representations of roadway models
  • Integrating AASHTO standards that assist with achieving good design
  • Accomplishing roadway rehab using specialized tools

4 hour course | 4 CPC/CEU credits

This course builds on the basics to focus on the specific Civil 3D tools you need for utility and infrastructure projects in public works. You’ll learn to construct collaborative models, integrate design elements from multiple disciplines, and complete utility projects efficiently, giving you the practical skills to manage complex public agency designs with confidence.

Session 1: Pipe Networks

  • Laying out gravity systems using design rules
  • Adjusting the vertical design of pipe runs in profile
  • Adding and modifying structures and pipes
  • Using catchments to analyze drainage areas

Session 2: Pressure Networks

  • Understanding how pressure pipes are influenced by other design elements
  • Creating pipe runs from other objects
  • Placing pressure pipes in profile and avoiding conflicts
  • Combining pipe runs and adding appurtenances
