Building Civil 3D Corridors

The Building Civil 3D Corridors training series is perfect for designers and engineers looking to master corridor design. Begin with foundational skills like creating and editing corridors, building assemblies, and designing cul-de-sacs and elbows. Then advance to complex techniques, including intersections, hammerheads, corridor sectioning, and dynamic corridor surfaces. Learn to manage multiple baselines, control transitions, and generate precise, real-world roadway models with efficiency and confidence. By the end of the series, you’ll have the practical skills to tackle both simple and highly complex corridor projects in Civil 3D.

This live online series offers 2 four-hour courses. You can take both courses or just the one that meets your needs. Each separate course is delivered in 2 two-hour sessions. A live instructor explains the detailed functions and addresses questions as the class progresses.

Note: Instructor will present using Autodesk Civil 3D 2026. Students who wish to follow along with instructor are encouraged to use the same version.

Prerequisite: Students should have a working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D.

Recording: Registrants for a course will receive access to a recording of each session for 7 consecutive days. Access will start the next business day after the session ends.

Linear corridor design is a foundational skill for any Civil 3D designer. This course guides you through creating and editing corridors, building assemblies, and controlling transitions. You’ll also learn how to design elbows and cul-de-sacs, connect multiple baselines, and develop a cohesive, accurately graded corridor for real-world roadway projects.

Session 1: Corridor Basics

  • Creating and editing an assembly
  • Building a basic corridor
  • Understanding the properties of a corridor
  • Working with corridor regions
  • Targeting objects for width and elevation
  • Controlling corridor transitions

Session 2: Working with Cul-de-sacs and Elbows

  • Creating and working with regions
  • Building cul-de-sac profiles
  • Creating cul-de-sac assemblies
  • Working with multiple baselines
  • Using multiple assemblies to a design

Designing complex corridors in Civil 3D doesn’t have to be intimidating. This course takes you beyond simple corridors to tackle intersections, hammerheads, and advanced corridor sectioning. You’ll learn to use the Intersection Wizard, manage assemblies, generate corridor surfaces, and apply dynamic controls - giving you the skills to model even the most intricate roadway geometry with confidence.

Session 1: Working with Intersections and Hammerheads

  • Understanding the Intersection Wizard
  • Setting intersection defaults
  • Understanding intersection regions and assembly sets
  • Integrating turn lanes into intersections
  • Setting up user-defined intersection targeting

Session 2: Corridor Sections & Surfaces

  • Using the Corridor Section Editor
  • Section editor display & parameter controls
  • Changing assemblies by section
  • Adding & deleting corridor sections
  • Generating a corridor surface
  • Setting corridor surface data types & codes
  • Adding corridor surface boundaries
  • Dynamic actions of corridor surfaces
