3 Favorite Revit 2027 Micro-Upgrades You Might Have Missed

Modern BIM Workspace with Architectural Plans

A useful Revit upgrade can be as small as one less interruption during sheet production. These are our three picks from the original Revit 2027 release: modest changes that address everyday annoyances, with a quick way to try each one.

the Auto Expand Sheet Views control and its two browser behaviors

1. Keep sheet nodes from expanding automatically

Adding a view to a sheet can make the Project Browser busier just when you are trying to move through a sheet set. Revit 2027 lets you control whether the sheet node automatically expands when you add a view. (Autodesk: sheet expansion)

Try it: right-click in the Project Browser and turn off Auto Expand Sheet Views on View Placement, then place views on two sheets. Check whether keeping the browser compact makes it easier to find your next sheet.

This is especially useful during repetitive sheet setup. If you prefer seeing every placed view immediately, keep expansion enabled. The improvement is having a choice that fits how you work.

2. Decide Room Bounding before drawing a wall

Revit 2027 lets you check or uncheck Room Bounding before creating walls. Previously, that decision could mean a cleanup pass after placement. (Autodesk: Room Bounding)

Try it: in a test room, start the Wall command and turn Room Bounding off before placing a short wall intended to sit within the room. Check the room area and boundary afterward.

Use this when a modeled wall should not define the room enclosure. Keep the setting deliberate: a partition intended to separate two rooms still needs the appropriate boundary behavior. Before drawing the next batch, check Room Bounding again. A useful shortcut can become a quiet mistake when the next wall has a different purpose.

3. Put the tag leader where the drawing needs it

Tag leaders gain more control in 2027. You can manually position their start and end points, and tag-family geometry can be excluded from the leader outline. (Autodesk: tag leaders)

Try it: select a tag leader, set Leader Start to Free Start in Properties, and reposition the start point. Test the result at the view’s intended print scale.

For a recurring attachment problem, inspect the family rather than adjusting every instance. Exclude From Leader Outline lets you stop selected geometry from influencing the attachment outline. Test changes in a copy of the family before replacing a shared office tag.

The payoff is a clearer relationship between the label, its leader, and the element being identified.

A five-minute team exercise

Pick one crowded sheet, one room, and one awkward tag. Try these changes on a test copy, then share the most useful result at your next production meeting. Small improvements earn their place when the next person can use them without a lengthy explanation.
