Surface Design in Civil 3D II

Advanced site grading and subdivision design are essential skills for Civil 3D professionals. This course focuses on manipulating TIN surfaces, creating and editing feature lines, and using grading objects to develop precise, dynamic site designs. You’ll also explore parcel layouts, labeling, and reports – giving you the tools to efficiently produce high-quality grading and subdivision designs.

This course is delivered in 2 two-hour sessions. A live instructor explains the detailed functions and addresses questions as the class progresses.

Note: Instructor will present using Autodesk Civil 3D 2026. Students who wish to follow along with instructor are encouraged to use the same version.

Prerequisite: Students should have a working knowledge of Autodesk AutoCAD.

Recording: Registrants for a course will receive access to a recording of each session for 7 consecutive days. Access will start the next business day after the session ends.

Session 1: Grading Design Tools

  • Dynamic interaction of Grading Objects
  • Building surfaces from Grading Objects

Session 2: Subdivision Grading

  • Creating Dynamic Parcel Layouts
  • Editing Parcels
  • Controlling Parcel and distance/bearing labels
  • Adding custom fields (addresses) to Parcels
  • Generating Parcel Reports/Legends
  • Extracting Feature Lines from Corridors
  • Working with Feature Lines
  • Creating side lot controls with Feature Lines
  • Using Grading Objects to daylight rear yards
