Intelligent Road Design in Civil 3D

The Intelligent Road Design in Civil 3D course series is designed for civil professionals who want to confidently create accurate, dynamic roadway models using Autodesk Civil 3D. Beginning with profile design and assembly creation, the series builds a strong foundation for intelligent corridor modeling. It then advances into corridor creation, region management, target controls, and corridor surfaces and sections. Through practical, step-by-step instruction, you’ll gain the skills needed to build roadway designs that are easy to edit, update, and deliver for real-world projects.

This live online series offers 2 four-hour courses. You can take both courses or just the one that meets your needs. Each separate course is delivered in 2 two-hour sessions. A live instructor explains the detailed functions and addresses questions as the class progresses.

Note: Instructor will present using Autodesk Civil 3D 2026. Students who wish to follow along with instructor are encouraged to use the same version.

Prerequisite: Students should have a working knowledge of Autodesk Civil 3D.

Recording: Registrants for a course will receive access to a recording of each session for 7 consecutive days. Access will start the next business day after the session ends.

Corridor modeling is often the most challenging part of Civil 3D, but mastering it is essential for accurate road design. This course focuses on creating and editing corridors, managing regions, and applying target and slope controls to develop precise, easy-to-update roadway models. You’ll also learn to generate and control corridor surfaces and sections for professional, real-world road projects.

Session 1: Corridor Creation

  • Creating required components for Corridor creation
  • Understanding Dynamic Interaction of Corridors
  • Editing Corridor Properties
  • Corridor Regions
  • Creating & Dividing Corridor Regions
  • Working with Surface Targets
  • Working with Width Targets
  • Working with Elevation Targets

Session 2: Corridor Sections & Surfaces

  • Using the Corridor Section editor
  • Section editor display & parameter controls
  • Changing Assemblies by section
  • Adding & deleting Corridor sections
  • Generating a Corridor Surface
  • Setting Corridor Surface data types & codes
  • Adding Corridor Surface Boundaries
  • Dynamic actions of Corridor Surfaces
