How do BricsCAD point groups work for civil points? Let’s start by Setting the workspace to Civil to display the Home tab with the options for surfaces, points, alignments, and corridors.
You can manage BricsCAD civil points using point groups. Point groups help with manipulating selections of points based on some commonality. Point groups can be used to control how points display. They can also be used to add relevant TIN points to a surface very quickly.
Point groups can be managed on the Civil Explorer panel. If points have already been created in the drawing, you will see the _All Points point group. Any point created in the drawing automatically belongs to this point group.
To select all of the points in the drawing, right-click on the _All Points point group on the Civil Explorer panel, then click Select.
Using the Properties panel, we could place all these points on a more suitable layer.
We could also change the point block or point label block from the default to something custom.
To create a point group, right-click on Point Groups on the Civil Explorer panel, then click Create.
You will be prompted at the command line to enter a name. In this example we’ll create a group called EG which will include points for our existing surface.
Next, you will be prompted to choose an option to either include or exclude by filter. In this example, we will specify points to include by clicking on the “filter to Include” option.
The next prompt offers us various ways to filter out points to include in this point group. In this example, we will filter out by raw description.
We can specify multiple items separated by commas (eg, A,B,C,D), range items as for point numbers and elevations (eg, 1-4), a mix of range and individual items (eg, 1,3,5,7-12), and wild cards (eg, ep*, tc*). In this example, we will enter some raw descriptions at the prompt.
To finish, click Enter.
The new point group appears in the Civil Explorer.
We can now easily add these TIN points to a surface.
Point groups are a great way to organize and manage civil points in a BricsCAD drawing. With this we can easily alter the display of certain points, place them on appropriate layers, and configure surfaces.
